Relationship to the Story: Beloved mother of Zee and Jinx.

Respected within the community as the widowed wife of a local ‘Godfather’.

She does not want to be at the Band Hall on this night, but as it is an emergency she has no choice. There is big troubled brewing.

She insists that Garet leaves the hall and goes home as respectful as possible. It is a friendly warning that is not heeded.

Specifically requested to return in the early hours and ‘clean up’ her son Jinx’s murderous mess, Mother Betty is livid but does it anyway.

This is the beginning of the end for Jinx.

This is the last straw.

Mother Betty is way too old for this shit.

Gender: Female

Profession: Shop Worker

Cultural Background: Mixed-Religion (Protestant / Catholic). Working Class South Belfast.

Relationship to the Story: A young woman who doesn’t drink but loves to dance. Happy to spend time alone.

Garet is shy around men which is often construed as ‘arrogance’ to these very same idiots.

So, when she rebuffs Jinx, it is the end of the world. No-one does that to him. Particularly not a scumbag “half-caste” like Garet.

Garet soon becomes the subject of a brutal ‘murder’ - tortured by Jinx and his bother Zee and finished off by Mother Betty as she lays in a trash barrel on a back street.

Garet refuses to accept her fate, even in death, and she appears in spirit to Mother Betty through the night seeking answers.

JINX

Gender: Male

Profession: Low level Drug Dealer

Cultural Background: White Irish. Staunchly Loyalist - South Belfast forever.

Relationship to the Story: Son of Mother Betty.

Younger Brother of Zee.

Murderer of Garet.

A ‘live wire’, anti ‘Peace Process’ arrogant prick who is a constant pain the ass to those around him.

Despite all of that he is loved - at least by his mother, but that will also soon fade after he takes offence to Garet’s rejection.

He tortures this young woman almost to death, just for having the courage to say no to him.

Jinx tries to convince himself and those around him that there is a rumour that Garet was one of ‘them’ and she was planted in this hall on this night.

No-one believes him of course, and plans are put in place that will mean that Jinx will punished in the morally correct manner for once in his decrepit life.

The world is moving on from people like him and everyone knows it.

ZEE

Age: 30 years

Gender: Male

Profession: Construction Manager

Cultural Background: Loyalist / Protestant background - now moderate about his political ideals now.

Relationship to the Story: The elder brother of Jinx, he is there, as always, to keep an eye on this “annoying little shit”, which is exhausting.

Spending his time trying to convince Jinx that the ‘peace process’ is a very real thing, he soon realises that he is on a road to nowhere as his brother does something stupid that could get all of them killed.

Zee discovers Jinx torturing a mental disabled young woman in the office room of the hall.

Seeing that there is no way back from this he makes the decision to help his bother complete the ‘task’.

He requests the presence of Mother Betty and, yet again, it is up to her to finish the job.

After a deep conversation with his mother Zee knows what must be done now for the sake of the family.

And as for his brother?

Well, there is nothing else for it but to hand him over.
